Malaysia Day

The Formation Of Malaysia

Malaysia Day is held on September 16 every year to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation on the same date in 1963. It marked the joining together of Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak, and Singapore to form Malaysia. The formation of the new federation was planned to occur on June 1, 1963, but was later postponed to August 31, 1963, in order to coincide with the sixth Hari Merdeka. Several issues related to the Indonesian and the Filipino objection to the formation of Malaysia delayed the declaration to September 16 of the same year. The postponement was also done to allow the United Nations team time to conduct referendums in North Borneo (now Sabah) and Sarawak regarding the two states participation in a new federation.

The formation of Malaysia was made possible through the introduction of the Malaysia Bill to the Malayan Parliament on July 9, 1963, and consent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on August 29, 1963.

Prior to the formation of Malaysia, Singapore and North Borneo unilaterally declared independence from the United Kingdom on August 31, 1963, thus coinciding with the sixth anniversary of the Malayan independence. Beginning year 2010, September 16 is a federal public holiday. It coincides with the birthday of the Yang di-Pertua of Sabah.

Death March

Forgotten British Death March Honored.

Britain finally got their "Act of Remembrance" together in honour of the 641 British Prisoners of War who died in connection with the 1945 Sandakan-Ranau Death March.

The occasion saw a Royal Artillery Memorial Unveiling and Dedication attended by top brass from the British Army and a crowd of special persons.

The memorial dedication marked the climax of the first such British effort by 14 members of the Royal Artillery that completed a 12-day trek over the entire 250km Death March traail between Aug. 15-25 led by Tham Yau Kong and his boys.

"This is a simple yet very important ceremony to remember all those who sacrificed their lives for a Sabah that we now cherish," said Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology, Datuk Yee Moh Chai.

Yee said from the Sabah perspective, it was "fitting" to pay tribute to the 641 British and 1,787 Australian prisoners of war who lost their lives here in the State.

Anglican Archdeacon, Moses Chin, officiated at the ceremony in the English Garden of the Kundasang War Memorial, in perfect weather.

Also present was Datuk Ellron Angin, Assistant Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment, Permanent Seretary, Michael Imban, as well as the Assemblyman for Kundasang, Joichim Gunsalam.

Australian historian Lynette Silver, known for her extensive research writings on the Death March, was also present. Brigadier DRK Francis of British Embassy Beijing, represented the Director Royal Artillery.

The highest ranking British Military Officer present, Major General CC Wilson, the Colonel Commandant of the Royal Artillery, said he experienced a "very moving ceremony."

"It is a tribute to all these people that we have forgotten for so long and at long last, we are able to remember them."

"Sixty six years is too long because we hadn't really understood what the ordeal was in the past until Major Tulloch (John) did all this research that it came to our attention, that the Royal Artillery suffered very badly (over 400 of the 641 dead came from the Royal Artillery Regiment)," Major General Wilson said.

"The Death March is a terrible thing to have happened," he added.

"I think what people are most concerned about is not the fact that people are PoWs because that happens in war. It's the way in which PoWs are treated which is not acceptable.

"Every war has prisoners but they have to be treated in a humane manner and that didn't happen in this case," Major General Wilson noted..

" I think that's the piece that we really want to remember," added Wilson who described the 14 British Royal Artillery trekkers as remarkable.

"I met them on the last day when they walked into the Last Camp and they looked still fit and well as if it was the first day."

British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Simon Featherstone, cited "a very moving morning because this is a period of history which is very sad."

"But I think it is very important that we don't forget the people who suffered so terribly during the war and remember it as a spur to work for peace in our own time," Featherstone said.

On why it has taken Britain so long, Featherstone said: "I think it's never too late to remember people who have given everything for the cause of freedom," he said, commending the efforts of a "few determined individuals" who made it happen.

On possibilities to raise British awareness, Featherstone said he's "sure" the publicity surrounding the event will "increase the visibility of what happened."

"The ultimate sacrifice of the British soldiers mostly of the Royal Artillery, has to be recognised and appreciated, " said Tengku Datuk Dr. Zainal Adlin, Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board, who said credit must go to Major Tulloch who realised not much was known about the ultimate sacrifice by his own Regiment and is out to make it known.

Meanwhile, Major Tulloch said he was "absolutely and emotionally delighted" by the turnout and the conducive weather.

Tulloch's wife, Victoria, said she was "glad to see it was finally so successful" an event that had taken very long to organise and put together.

'I am very proud of my husband," Victoria said.

The Creator Of "Jalur Gemilang" Mohamed Hamzah

Malaysia Stripe Of Pride: Mohamed Hamzah

The Late Mohamed Hamzah, the creator of the Malaysian flag is now known as the Jalur Gemilang. In 1947 the Malaysian flag was invented and for the first time on August 31st, 1957 it was raised for Malaysia independence day.

It will took 47 years before his contribution to the country was being appreciated. After 47 years, the heirs of the late Mohamed Hamzah finally have the opportunity to get the services and contributions for the late Mohamed Hamzah with various levels of appreciation throughout the country. Mohamed is the second of 10 siblings. As my youngest son close to him. Late also take responsibility for bringing up all his sister after his mother and father died. Late is a creative and very interested in painting. He was so diligent and willing to spend many hours producing his work.

History began in 1947 when the ruler at that time make contest for designing a flag for Federation of Malaya. Late Mohamed Hamza did not want to miss the opportunity to show his talent in art. He was then 29 years tirelessly creative ideas and best features for the competition. At that time, I do not understand the attitude of brother who likes to spend time at the office for hours just to draw the flag of interest. Late to finish school in Bahasa College (now Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar) spent more than two weeks to produce a sketch of the two flags to be sent to Kuala Lumpur.

A sketch of the flag symbolizes the invention using water color pictures Kris and sheath surrounded by 15 stars (in white) and has a green background. The second sketch of the flag symbolize the five-pointed star and crescent in yellow and blue background, with 14 red and white strips. At that time, 13 years old, remembers when the late grin moment when the two drawings were created late flag is displayed in a local newspaper. In fact, the images shown will also allow people to choose the flag before declared as the official flag of the country. According to the sectional form of a posted selection of local residents, eventually the flag that the proposed four-color flag was proclaimed the Federation of Malaya. However, after the announcement was made, the late host the late Datuk Onn Jaafar personally to do some modifications to the flag.

Datuk Onn, who visited our home in Jalan Ungku Puan (Johor Bahru) proposes to modify the form of brother to the 11 edges of the star represents the state in the Federation of Malaya and the three states of the straits of Singapore, Penang and Malacca. Although unable to attend to Kuala Lumpur on Merdeka Day, but late to work as a Public Works Department (JKR) in Johor was happy with his contribution to the country. Late has been married four times and the last with Robani David. They were blessed with a son of Mary, and four adopted children of Khadijah, Azizah Mohd Ali and Mohd Seth. He breathed his last on February 19, 1993 ie 14 days before the completion of 75 years old at the family house in Jalan Stulang Baru, Kampung Malays Majidee. Although he is gone, but we hope the people across the country fondly remembered him who creates and make all of us proud for the flag.

Do Not Punish Without Any Reason.

Example Picture
A Form Two student of SMK Arshad here claimed to have been beaten by his teacher for no reason on Thursday (Aug. 25).

Mohd Shafiq Johari, accompanied by his parents, came to the Kota Belud SAPP office to demand justice against the teacher.

His father also lodged a police report and obtained a medical report regarding the incident.

"My son was beaten by the teacher for no apparent reason.

This has caused him to be worried and depressed as well as afraid of going to school," he said, adding that his request for a meeting with the school principal for an explanation was ignored.

"The principal didn't take any action. In fact, the alleged teacher through the discipline teacher offered to give me RM200 to forget the incident," he claimed.

"I refused to accept the money but my son brought back the money after he was instructed to bring it home," he further claimed.

Shafiqs' parents are very disappointed with the school and decided to come to the SAPP office to seek advice and assistance in the matter.

They said they wanted this matter to be exposed because they don't want the same thing to happen to other children.

Among those present were Kadamaian Chairperson, Agnes Liewpin, Information Chief Jack Giau, Deputy Chairman Tubil Gandong and Usukan Division Secretary Yong Kai Wah.

QPR ( Queen Park Rangers FC ) New Owner

Tan Sri Tony Fernandez Buy QPR Football Club EPL

The new owner of the English Football Club, QPR-Queen Park Rangers is a well-known business tycoon from Malaysia Tan Sri Tony Fernandez who apprently the owner of Airasia Air Transport Company. Wow it is a good news for the Malaysian EPL fan. Sure we will be reading about this good news inside 36(Three Sixty Airasia Magazine) soon.  A big opportunity for him and hope he can recommend some of the Malaysian Footballer like Shafie Salleh to play there. Is a win win situation, He can boost up the image of Malaysian Football, promote his Airasia Air Transportation as well as promoting the Malaysian Tourism Industry. It would be nice if our footballer wear an EPL Jersey just like Matlan Marjan did many years ago. Well it is time for the Malaysian footballer to play in superb football league if given a chance him. Good luck for him and hopefully QPR will be promoted to English Premier League.

Continue reading....The Malaysian airline entrepreneur Tony Fernandes is the new majority owner of Queens Park Rangers having bought the whole of Bernie Ecclestone's 66% stake in the club for around £35m. The price is understood to equal the total which Ecclestone and his fellow investor Flavio Briatore have paid into QPR, in shares and loans, since they took over the club in 2007, and not amount to a huge profit for the Formula One boss.

"I've always wanted to be involved in football and the appeal of a London Club like QPR, was too good an opportunity to turn down," Fernandes said. "QPR is a raw diamond and hopefully I can contribute into turning it into a diamond. I want the fans to be proud of what we're doing and be involved as much as we can."

Lakshmi Mittal, the Indian steel magnate, is understood to be retaining his 33% stake, although there had been discussions about increasing the Mittal stake by 10%. Mittal's son-in-law, Amit Bhatia, who won respect from Rangers fans as chairman last year before stepping down after season ticket prices were increased and his own takeover offer was rebuffed, is expected to rejoin the board and work closely with Fernandes.

Fernandes is expected to pledge around £10m further to invest in the club, including for new players the manager, Neil Warnock, wants to sign in this transfer window to give Rangers a more solid prospect of surviving in the Premier League. Scott Parker, the West Ham and England midfielder, is likely to be one of Warnock's targets. He does not, however, intend to bankroll the club with his own millions every year, but instead believes that on the Premier League's vast TV income, it can grow within its means if run sensibly and with a strong youth policy.

He will also not hide the intention to promote his own companies, the low-cost airline AirAsia, or Malaysian Airlines, in which he and his partner recently bought a 20% stake, with marketing initiatives, probably including sponsoring the Rangers shirt. Team Lotus, the Formula One team of which Fernandes is the owner and team principal, is sponsored by AirAsia, which also sponsored last year's British Grand Prix, and he has concluded that sport is a very profitable marketing vehicle for his businesses.

Fernandes's 66% acquisition of QPR comes only two months after his second offer to buy West Ham, the club he supports, was rebuffed by the Hammers' co-owner, David Sullivan, who described it as "derisory." Fernandes, then was approached to buy QPR by Ecclestone, who has never seemed fully engaged or happy owning the club. He and Briatore became bitterly unpopular with many fans after announcing steepling ticket price rises as soon as Rangers won promotion in May, and they looked for a sale and an exit route.

Fans who have become sceptical about the businessmen arriving as saviours to buy their club are expected to be reassured that Fernandes is paying cash, not borrowing to take over, and he is understood to want the existing loans in the club, including from the Mittal family, to be converted into shares.

Born in Kuala Lumpur and educated in England, at the Epsom College boarding school then the London School of Economics, Fernandes qualified as an accountant and worked in the music industry for 14 years before doing the deal which has made his real fortune – buying the then debt-laden AirAsia, with three partners, for a token one Malaysian ringgit (20p) in 2001.

He said he mortgaged his home and had only £250,000 initially to invest in AirAsia, which was then reshaped into a low cost airline flying 18 million passengers to 65 cities in Asia and around the world, turning over £790m and making a pre-tax profit of £200m, according to its most recent annual report. The company Fernandes and his partners formed to buy the airline, Tune Air, still owns 26% of AirAsia, and sources close to him say he has sold shares in AirAsia to release the cash to buy into Rangers. Two of his partners in Malaysia are understood to be investing in QPR alongside him.

Rangers began the season on Saturday with a 4-0 home defeat to Bolton, playing in a shirt without a sponsor, which club sources suggested then was because it was being left ready for AirAsia's name. QPR fans can expect a smiling, clubby style of ownership from a businessman who appears to relish all his activities, and believes in modern communication, including via his energetic Twitter account. There are suggestions that he wants to meet and talk to fans, then actually reduce the ticket prices back to a more reasonable increase on what they were in the Championship last season.

If he makes good on his promises of investment without debt, and is open with and approachable to supporters, he should win friends among fans who grew miserable over the summer. It is, though, fiendishly difficult to give a small club a fighting chance in the Premier League without overspending, and once the deal is concluded, the hard work will begin.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman has announced the annual incentive and performance special payment of a half-month or minimum RM500 to 19,191 State public service personnel this year.

Emulating the Federal Government, the move would cost the State Government about RM16.2 million. The payment would be made before Hari Raya Aidil Fitri.

It is also to assist lessen some of their burden in facing increasing cost of living, he said in a statement, Saturday.

Meanwhile, he said the month of Ramadhan is a time for Muslims to engage in more spiritual activities and strengthen unity among fellow Muslims.

He said Ramadhan was the right time for Muslims to close ranks, come together and contribute to society by assisting those who are not so fortunate like orphans, the elderly and single mothers.

"We understand that during festivities like Hari Raya Aidilfitri, living expenses go up. People need to prepare for the celebration...buy food, new clothes and related items," said Musa, when handing out asistance to some 400 eligible recipients at Kg Sungai Padas.

Musa said the BN government in general, and Umno in particular, was sensitive to the plight of the people and would whenever possible assist the people especially the less fortunate.

He also said that in terms of development, the BN government did not only develop infrastructure such as roads, ellectricity and water supply, but also made efforts to build spiritual and recreational facilities such as mosques and multipurpose halls respectively.

"We adopt such an approach to encourage the people especially our youths to engage in healthy activities and not be drawn into negative elements su h as drugs and crime," he said.

He also advised parents to monitor the activities of their children and ensure that their studies were not neglected, adding that making such an effort was crucial to the future of the young generation in this country.

"Education is the key and this message must be driven home especially to rural folks.

You can't take education for granted," he said.

He said the BN government was well aware of this and hence decided to develop the Education Hub in Sandakan as means to provide accessible and affordable higher education to our local youths.

He said once completed and operational, parents should take advantage of the facilities and various institutions and encouraged their children to pursue tertiary education at the Hub.

Earlier, Musa also handed out assistance to some 200 recipients comprising mostly orphans at Kg Sungai Daling. Among those present were Beluran MP, Datuk Jusli Ajirol, Gum-Gum, Sekong and Bugaya assemblymen, Datuk Zakaria Idris, Datuk Samsudin Yahya and Datuk Ramli Maharaban and Senate Deputy Speaker Datuk Armani Mahiruddin.

JOAN AND THE JESELTONE

Joan Jim Lajim The Jazz Singer from Tamparuli Sabah.

Another jewel from Tamparuli Sabah, Ms Joan Jim Lajim a raising star from Kg Kionsom Baru Tamparuli Sabah. Her brother Gilbert Jim Lajim was a very nice friend of mine. Famous with his Song " Glowing In The Dark"  with Papier Mache local band from Tamparuli Sabah. Joan Lajim is a graduate from ASK - Akademi Seni Kebangsaan Malaysia. Have a nice voice just like the Queen of Jazz, Sheila Majid. First debut with The Jesseltone about a year ago singing her very best single title of " Hingga Esok Tiba". Below is a little bit information about Joan and The Jeseltone which I copy from her blog. I cannot reveal more because I need permission from her, anyway do enjoy the clip and Go Joan Go...

I am so proud to introduce you a band group “ Joan & the Jeseltone“ . The special thing about this group is the singer, Joan Jim Lajim, from Tamparuli and was my ex-classmate from Form 1 until Form 5. Ever since I knew her, she really has a very very nice voice.

By the way,  Joan & the Jeseltone formed about a year ago with a straight forward mission – playing Jazz music. The significant of Jazz here does not only referring to the Duke Ellington’s swing or Jobim’s bossanova but included the fuse music that ever made by the Fourplay, George Benson or even Corinne Bailey Rae.

Joan & the Jeseltone will bring you in appreciation of the traditional jazz music with the combination of R&B, pop and funk. This traditional jazz sound will be modernized with their own approaches and by subtlety playing without hesitating too much about the right and wrong in music theories.  Joan & the Jeseltone is about six people combine in making a song happen instead of one song plays by six people. What they try to present in this band is not whose music they’re playing but how they deliver the music to everyone. Considering the sound from the 50’s New Orleans to the Millenium’s R&B, they will try to make the best out of it in presenting the today’s sound of Jazz.
