Remember what Anwar did to PBS: Mositun

(Daily Express) - The people have been urged not to be hoodwinked by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's "sweet" promises for the coming general election.

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Information Chief, Datuk Johnny Mositun, reminded the people that Anwar together with several other Federal leaders were responsible for the downfall of the PBS government in 1994.

"He was the chief strategist at that time so I hope the people will not be easily influenced by his sweet promises whenever he comes to Sabah," he said when met after attending the Chinese New Year open house hosted by Inanam Assemblyman, Datuk Johnny Goh, here, Saturday.

Mositun, who is also State Assembly Deputy Speaker, said there were so many promises made by the Pakatan Rakyat, including the Deputy Prime Minister post, to the people of Sabah.

"All these are nothing but to give an empty hope for the people and we know how Anwar is willing to do anything as proven after the 1994 general election," he said.

He claimed that Anwar had also tried to apply a similar strategy when he told the people that the Government of Malaysia will be changed on Sept 16, 2008.

However, he said nothing materialised after Sept 16, 2008.

Towards this end, he said the Barisan Nasional (BN) Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datuk Seri Musa Aman in Sabah had proven its capability in bringing development to the country, State and people.

"I believe the people can assess for themselves the proven track record of the BN Government and reject the opposition once and for all in the 13th General Election," he said.

Sabah Hawks Draw with Selangor PKNS (27 jan 2012)

Last night was a frustration match. I been waiting for a goal from Sabah Hawks in the first half but they did not have chance at all. Luckily they scored two goal during the second half of the game. The two goal scored by Sabah Hawks help the team to get one valuable point. The end result was Sabah Hawks draw with Selangor PKNS (2,2). Sabah Hawks goal scored Micheal Baird and OG from PKNS Player while the two goals scored by PKNS was from their Import player from Egypt. The game was more to Sabah Hawks but with lack of luck, the Hawks cannot scored any goal during the first half. I would like to "Thumb Up" for the die hard supporter during the match at PKNS Stadium carrying a banner "Fight Forever Sabah FA". For the Sabah Hawks head coach Mr Justin Ganai... Good Job and hopefully next week Sabah Hawks will win against Kelantan Warrior.

Next week game Sabah Hawks Vs Kelantan Warrior will be held at Stadium Likas (07 Feb 2012). Come and support the team. I wish that Mafry Balang already can play during that match. For Sabahan player .. Relax, Keep On Training and Focus. See you all on my next post.

Notebook For Kota Marudu and Matunggong People

The Barisan Nasional government cares for the total needs of the people, not just physical infrastructure but also mental and financial needs, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili.

The Kota Marudu MP said that the distribution of the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) and 1Malaysia netbooks were clear proof of this development strategy.

Only the BN government could conceive and implement such creative assistance programme for the people. Unlike the Opposition, who are only good in talking and misleading the people,” he said when distributing iDola netbooks to the public in Kota Marudu district and Matunggong sub-district yesterday.

He distributed 941 netbooks including to 352 university students and the rest to NGOs, village heads, village committees, religious bodies and parent-teacher associations in the Kota Marudu district.

For Matunggong, he distributed 1,010 netbooks to the same target groups. This puts the total number of netbooks already distributed under the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)'s 1Malaysia Netbook Distribution Programme in Kota Marudu parliamentary constituency to more than 4,500 units.

Dr Maximus also said Kota Marudu had been fortunate to have among the highest number of recipients of the netbooks in the state, as part of the national broadband initiative aimed at increasing internet access for target groups, students and the poor.

The effort had also proved fruitful as the MCMC had found that the district now had the highest broadband penetration for rural districts in Sabah, with a 30% increase, since the distribution of the netbooks began in October last year, he added.

Dr Maximus also told the people that as the units were limited, they had to fulfil set requirements to receive the aid.

As 15,000 families in Kota Marudu would fulfil the requirement of having household income of RM3,000 and below, we have to be selective in giving out the netbooks.

As such we target NGOs, students and families with university-going children and cannot give it to every individual. For example, one unit of netbook is given to a family with a child or children studying in university, he added.

BR1M Tuaran

Sabah Hawks Vs Selangor PKNS 2012

Sabah will take on for Selangor PKNS tonight. This match will be live on 801 Astro Channel at 8.45pm tonight. For the supporter of Sabah Hawks lets us pray for a glorious win tonight. Last week I was at Likas Stadium for a match between Singapore Lions and Sabah Hawks. It was a disappointing game for me and for the 9,999 hardcore supporter for Sabah Hawks. Tonight I want Sabah Hawks to win and off-course Sabah Hawks Fan also want Sabah  FA to win. To get more information about this match, continue reading below article from Sabah Times Newspaper.

KOTA KINABALU: Justin Ganai wants his charges to get the points when they take on Selangor PKNS in a Super League tie at the Petaling Jaya Stadium in Kelana Jaya tonight.

He said they need to make a quick rebound following their 0-1 defeat to Singapore’s Lions XII in their last home game last week.

“We have to make amends in this game. I think it is going to be a tough game, but it leaves us with no other choice but to try to steal at least a point,” said Justin yesterday.

The Sabah head coach said failing to do the job will put the team under pressure.

He believes that as long as the players put their combined efforts into the game, their chances of getting their desired result will be greater.

“They are a good side. They have been together under Abdul Rahman Ibrahim (former national coach) for almost four years now. They have reinforced their squad with new signings, so we have to give our best in order to get the result,” he added.

Justin also hinted of making a tactical plan as he bids to humble their opponents.

With the absence of Mafry Balang, who was red carded against Singapore, Justin is also likely to make a minor reshuffle to his first team players.

However, Justin was reluctant to reveal what he has under his sleeves, apart from naming his probable first team.

He said he is likely to retain Azizon Abd Kadir as his ball-stopper while Rosdin Wasli is expected to fill in the vacuum left by Mafry with Md Reithudin Ag Emran, Mohd Fariss Azlan Mat Isa and Ronny Harun retained in the first team.

Sumardi Hajalan will also start the game, but is likely to be given a new role.

Radzi Mohd Hussin, who did not feature in the last two games, is also expected to make the first team squad so as Shahrul Azhar Ture and Razlan Oto.

Foreign signings Michael William Baird and Brendan Gan will also make the first team with the likes of Bobby Gonzales, Sabri Sahar, Mohd Safuan Ibrahim, Alto Linus, Mohd Rozaimi Abd Rahman and Syed Adney Syed Hussin starting from the bench.

Meanwhile, team manager AR Hj Shahriman Abdullah also fancies their chances against the club side.

He said he is confident the team can walk away with a positive result despite their home defeat to Singapore last week.

“We are a good team and we play our game very well. We controlled the match against Singapore and we were great against T-Team,” Shahriman said in showing his support to his charges.

“If we can get around the problem of scoring goals, I think we can beat any team and that includes our opponents tomorrow night,” he added.

He said with their confidence undamaged despite the defeat to Lions XII, they will be aiming for the points in a bid to make up for the ones they lost.

“Justin will try to unlock the combination so we can have a scoring partnership up front that would hopefully lead us to victory.

Shahriman also reminded his charges to be cautious as this will be an away match and that their opponents can defend their territory quite well, according to previous match records.

“We will play our usual game but we will be cautious as this is an away match. PKNS have a tight defence and we might have to work hard to try and crack them,” he said.

For the record, the match, which is the only Super League tie playing tonight, is likely to be shown live on Astro Channel 801 at 8.45pm.

Unity For The People Of Sabah

Unity for the sake of the party and the struggle for the people of Sabah, continues to be the cornerstone of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan paid tribute to the leaders, members and supporters of the party for their unwavering and undivided loyalty to PBS and its struggle.

"It is the perseverance and faith of the members and supporters that have seen PBS through thick and thin and going from strength to strength all these years," he said at the 'Unity Night' dinner last night held in conjunction with the party's 26th Congress.

The congress was opened earlier in the day by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The party president also attributed the commitment of PBS members to the spirit of cooperation within the Barisan Nasional to the party's ability to effectively serve and look after the interest of the people.

"This Malam Bersatu or Unity Night is also a celebration of our unity and a time for us to strengthen our bond in an informal atmosphere," he added.

Pairin also presented cash prizes to three divisions which recorded the highest number of new members during the party's 1PBS membership drive launched last year. The three divisions were Matunggong, Sook and Tambunan which won RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively.

Government Told To Cancel Dubious MyKad Of Foreign Immigrants

The president of Parti Bersatu Sabah Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan proposes that the government cancels all identity cards obtained by foreign immigrants through dubious means.

He said the move was necessary to combat the 'Project IC' issue frequently raised by various parties in the state including the opposition.

Pairin said PBS also wanted the process of changing to the new identity card next year to be further clarified.

"We do not want the process to be used to legitimise cards which were obtained through dubious means especially in Sabah.

"We want additional or supporting documents such as the birth certificate to be attached when processing the change of identity cards. This is to ensure only qualified people or locals could obtain the new identity card," he said in his presidential address at the 26th PBS Delegates Conference at KDCA Hall, here Monday.

He hoped the Federal government would take the proposal by PBS in good faith to set up a Royal Commission of Investigation on illegal immigrants in Sabah next year.

Pairin said PBS also wanted the setting up of a Philippines Consulate in Sabah to be expedited to facilitate the processing of travel documents of Filipinos.

On the 13th General Election, he said the PBS was confident that it could contribute to the victory of Barisan Nasional for seats allocated to the party.

Education Ministry Agrees To Delegate Power To Sabah, Sarawak To Manage Projects

PENAMPANG, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The Education Ministry has agreed to delegate power to each Education director of Sabah and Sarawak to manage the giving of education development project contracts in the two states.

In announcing this Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said it was reasonable to delegate such power, considering that Sabah and Sarawak were big states in terms of the number or size of their schools.

"Actually, it was like that previously for education projects in Sabah and Sarawak under our ministry, but since the last number of years, these projects have been managed by the ministry.

"I see the aptness in delegating this power back to Sabah and Sarawak. One way is to delegate that power to their Education director to see how certain projects that we implement at the state level can be jointly managed," he said after opening Parti Bersatu Sabah's (PBS) 26th Annual Convention at KDCA, here.

Muhyiddin who is also Education Minister, was earlier asked to comment on PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan's suggestion in his speech for the federal government to give Sabah contractors the opportunity to obtain contracts for projects funded by the federal government's allocations.

In regard to this, Muhyiddin asked the ministry's development division to study the two states' capacity to manage educational development project contracts.

"Although he have agreed on the matter in principle, we want to know whether they have the capacity or not to manage....we don't want any disruption after that due to lack of manpower to manage the projects.

"Perhaps, initially we should allow them to manage the small projects costing less than RM5 million. We should look at their capacity here first before handing them big projects to manage."

However, Muhyiddin said, several factors needed also to be taken into consideration, including the capability of the contractors offered the projects.

"There must also be a consultant for every project including on the contract's worth and areas that need to be scrutinised before the project is implemented."

On the call by the Parents Action Group for Education (Page), Sabah Chapter for the federal government to give national schools the option to teach Science and Mathematics in English, Muhyiddin said they had the right to forward their views on the matter.

"But we in the government and other concerned bodies have our own views on the matter too. If parents are asked, they will say 'yes', without knowing the background...whether the capacity is there and whether there are enough English language teachers.

"We have tested this since we introduced PPSMI (learning and teaching of Science and Maths in English). That's why we made the decision (to have the teaching of Science and Maths back in the Malay language).

"We have 5.3 million students, almost 10,000 schools and about 500,000 teachers. Hence, the information obtained was all-encompassing and we have considered all factors," he said.

Muhyiddin said the decision on the new policy was not made hastily but after indepth study made for the good of all.

PBS and MCA Got Into Labuan council

MCA which had been requesting for representation in the Advisory Council of Labuan Corporation (LC) since its establishment in 2001, has finally got its wish.

MCA Chairman Ching Hong Vui, along with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Chairman Peter Mark, are among five new faces in the Council.

They have been appointed on a one-year term.

Initially in the earlier years of LC the appointments were for three years but was reduced to two and now to one. According to some, the short term was due to the Ministry of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing looking into the possibility of expanding the Council members to nine from the present six, including the Chairman.

Since the LC was established and took over the duties of Labuan Development Authority (LDA) and the subsequent disbanding of Labuan Municipal Council, a number of requests had been made by various parties for the Advisory Council to have 14 members.

The numbers now considered is nine or seven.

It is also for the first time in the history of the council that as many as five new faces are among new appointments. The others are said to be Umno Secretary, Raziman Datuk Isli Siput, Chinese Chamber of Commerce President Wong Kii Hii and another a woman who would replace the sole woman representative in the Coucil (Fauziah Datuk Din).

The only councillor said to be retained is Chairman of the National Malay Chamber of Commerce, Datuk Haji Yussof Mohammed.

The Ministry usually has new faces in the Council to provide opportunities to all those nominated to serve.

The council is a high profile post. Its proceedings, however, are hardly transparent and many held the belief that the councilors are under a gag rule as their voices or opinions are seldom heard outside the Council room.

It is hoped that the new councilors would help erase public thinking that it acts as a "rubber stamp" role.

Councilors also enjoy certain perks annually such as all expenses paid study overseas.

Last year the Councilors went to Perth, Australia.

Jail For Motorist Who Kill

Road Safety Council member, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, proposed that those who drive recklessly and "kill" others on the road be handed a mandatory jail sentence.

This was one of four measures he proposed to enhance the ongoing effort to reduce road accidents and deaths in the country.

He said the Government should also rely on school education to create a new breed of motorists and motorcyclists who care for themselves and for others.

In this case it should have a syllabus on road safety for schools to inculcate the need to practise good etiquette and behaviour on the road as well as to build a road safety culture. Other than that, he said, the Government needs to identify all dangerous stretches of Federal, State and municipal roads and take steps to rectify them and make them safe for all road users.

"The Government should also consider introducing a 'Drive Safe and Pay Less' scheme. In this connection, drivers who have undergone defensive driving courses should qualify for payment of lesser insurance premium for their vehicles. Defensive driving is vital for road safety," he said.

"We view with utmost concern the frequent reports of road accidents, fatalities and injuries which are not only tragic to the families involved but also a loss to the nation's workforce," said Lee.

Traffic-related motor vehicle crashes is one of the leading causes of work-related injuries and deaths, he said, adding that commuting accidents also make up a significant percentage of industrial accidents reported to Socso yearly.

According to Socso, the total number of commuting accidents reported yearly had increased. For example, in 2000, the number of commuting accidents recorded was 19,620 cases and it has risen to 22,040 cases in 2010 , an increase by 12.33 per cent.

He said employers and employees must take cognisance of these serious statistics and be prepared to address the issue with a view towards reducing the number of commuting accidents.

In particular, he said employers have a duty to protect their employees and other road users by adopting the approach of "managing occupational road risk" in order to reduce business losses which arise from "at work" road accidents.

In this connection, he said employers have a role to play in developing and implementing comprehensive safety procedures and programmes for the workplace to reduce accidents, deaths and injuries including providing training to their employees to be competent drivers and riders.

He said measures to be taken by employers to prevent traffic-related deaths and injuries of workers from motor vehicle crashes should include; establishing a written policy requiring drivers and motorcyclists to undergo safe driving and riding practises and proper use of vehicle safety features; conducting driver's licence background checks on prospective drivers before they are hired, and providing seat belts and other safety features in all employer-provided vehicles; ensuring that drivers and motorcyclists in their employ comply with designated speed limits on roadways, and ensuring and establishing written procedures in respect of proper maintenance of all vehicles owned by the employers; and ensuring drivers observe speed limits and do not permit them to drive while fatigued, and also ensure that workers use appropriate barriers and traffic control efforts while work is being performed on the sides of the roadways.

Other than that, he said employers must also conduct defensive driving and riding courses to minimise accidents; and random drug tests to be carried out on all bus drivers to ensure safety of their passengers.

Lee said employers have a moral obligation to adopt a proactive approach to manage occupational road risk (ORR), adding they should always review the road safety standards of their organisations.

Employers who take action to promote the safety of their staff while driving or riding will achieve major cost savings, improve their image and make a significant contribution to meeting road safety targets, he said.

He said the government should rely on school education to create a new breed of motorists and motorcyclists who care for themselves and for others.

In this connection, he said, it should have a syllabus on road safety for schools to inculcate the need to practise good etiquette and behaviour on the road.

KDM Malaysia Organization

The State Government has been urged to generate new resources so as to create new employment opportunities for the people in order to stem the migration of Sabah youths elsewhere.

KDM Malaysia Vice President cum Director of Operations, Datuk Peter Anthony, said while human migration is normal all over the world, the Government should strive to achieve creating new resources.

"Migration is among the impacts created by globalisation.

It happens not only in Sabah but all over the world," he said at the KDM Malaysia Youth Sports Carnival closing and prize presentation in Kampung Sugud.

According to him, many Sabah KDMs migrated to Kuala Lumpur due to the sluggish economy in Sabah.

He said there are about 30,000 Sabahans living in Klang Valley and Johor alone, not counting KDMs in Singapore and other states in the country.

The figure, he said, shows the low employment opportunities in the State that causes the people to migrate in search of employment.

On the other hand, KDM Malaysia President Datuk John Ambrose said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein should take action against employment agencies which abuse their role.

He said many Kadazan, Dusun and Muruts who were recruited by these agencies have had their passports and identity cards taken by them, purportedly, as a "guarantee or collateral" should these KDM employees decide to pursue other employment opportunities.

Many KDMs also have been cheated by the employment agencies, he said.

"I personally know one or two cases involving KDM people who have been cheated," he said.

He said KDM Malaysia would strive to help these people get help or at least, if they wish to return home, to finance their tickets.

Ambrose said if the Home Ministry does not take action against the errant employment agencies, more Sabahans especially KDMs would be victimised.

On other developments, Peter said the people, including organisations' leaders, should not misunderstand political ideology and welfare.

"Irrespective of the people's political alliance, it is not a hindrance to us to assist our people. We should not be arrogant and forget about those who need our help. Wealth is only temporary but our personality will last," he said.

In this respect, he said KDM Malaysia's role in welfare is to help the poor.

He said it is still not too late for the organisation to assist the KDMs to improve their lives through any forms or efforts especially opportunities from the State and Federal Governments.

He again assured that KDM Malaysia would become a liaison between the people and the Government in order to help the people achieve their aspirations.

Also present were organising chairman Patrick Vinson Lojion, Secretary General Michael Ubu and Youth Chief Henry Soimpon.

Sabah FA, Recent Update

Sabah's loss to the Young Lions in the Super League match last Saturday was a huge disappointment for Justin Ganai and the management team.

Instead of giving a perfect present to their coach on Saturday who turned 56 a day earlier, the team lost 1-0 and the performances by some of the players really let the coach down.

Justin who was shouting out instructions at the top his lungs to the boys throughout the match was lost for words after the match.

Team Manager Hj Shariman Abdullah and his assistant Yahya Kassim were also in sombre mood and had deep discussions among themselves in the changing room.

The majority of the 10,000 strong crowd that flooded the Likas Stadium were also left disappointed by the result.

Nobody would have predicted that the team would lose the match as on paper Sabah had stood a very good chance of defeating the young Republic team who were handicapped by injuries and suspension to a few of their key players.

The home team meanwhile, were in high spirit after an impressive performance against table topping T-Team in their away game played days earlier, while the young Lions struggled to beat a weak Kuala Lumpur team 2-1 at home.

The match started with the visiting team taking the initiative to attack Sabah's half. Without any notable strikers in the team, Sabah were in no danger of conceding a goal until the 20th minute when the Young Lions were given a free kick at the right flank.

The free kick could have been avoided if only captain Reithuddin Emran did not lose his cool and decided to kick Yasir Hanapi while he was on the ground after the ball was already out of play.

The clinically taken header by Hariss Harun from Shahdan Sulaiman's free kick proved to be decisive in the heated match.

Hariss was given a free header in the box that rebounded off Mafry Balang and into the net with Sabah custodian Azizon Abd Kadir stranded on the ground.

The goal woke the Sabah players up and they responded almost immediately with K.Thanaraj's free-kick just whizzing over the crossbar, before Michael Baird 's shot was denied by Isa Halim with a block.

Both teams were soon reduced to ten men after both Mafry and Irwan Shah received red cards for an off the ball incident.

The home team were in total control of the match but they just could not penetrate the well organised Singapore defence.

Even on several occasions when they managed to have a shot at the Lions' goal, in form keeper Izwan Mahbud was there to deny Sabah's hopes of salvaging a point.

As a result of the loss, Sabah collected only four points from four matches played and are now in tenth place in the league with one win, one draw and two losses.

Do Not Play Too Much with Firecrackers

Six people lost their lives in the three days between the eve and second day of Chinese New Year but none more tragically than a 26-year-old who was setting off fireworks outside his home.

Newly-married By Shaow Yong made the fatal mistake of trying to find out why the fireworks he had lit did not shoot high into the sky as it should - it blew most of his head!

Two other young people were killed in road crashes in the city while in Sandakan, a teenager drowned and two elderly men were killed on the road and in a fire.

But it was By's shocking end that caught the public's imagination with news of his death going viral on the Internet. Facebook was abuzz with most people extending their condolences to his family and expressing anguish over the way he died.

Others pointed to the folly of playing with fireworks despite the continued ban on firecrackers and fireworks. Some noted that Sabah DAP had even lambasted the Government for not lifting the ban on these items.

It was learnt that By had placed two three-inch fireworks shells - capable of blasting 197 feet (equivalent to 16-storeys) into the air in 3.5 seconds - into a modified metal pipe launcher in the middle of the road facing his Taman Seputeh home just past midnight.

The first shell shot into the night sky and the brilliant, colourful explosion that followed thrilled his expectant wife and family members watching the display.

But when the second failed to ignite, he went to check the pipe.

That's when tragedy struck. The impact blew By's head off right before his wife, parents and siblings.

City police retrieved his remains for a post-mortem at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at about 3.30am. The remains were cremated Wednesday afternoon.

Yong, from Perak, had been helping his father sell char kuey in Foh Sang and Inanam over the last 10 years, the only son among four children.

City Police Chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria has since reminded the public not to play with fireworks and firecrackers, pointing out that legal action can be taken against those found purchasing and playing with fireworks and firecrackers not approved by the Government.

Meanwhile, two other young people - a 22-year-old hairstylist and a 24-year-old former property agent - were killed in road crashes here.

On New Year's Eve, Muslim convert, Khatizah Chan Wan Ly died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after a mishap at Jalan Kolam, Luyang.

The hairstylist was a front passenger of a Proton Iswara Aeroback driven by her 19-year-old friend and they were heading from KK Times Square to her home in Putatan at the time.

The driver, who sustained light injuries, lost control of the wheel and hit a tree while Khatizah who suffered internal injuries died at 5.50am in QEH.

On the first day of Chinese New Year, 24-year-old Tang Ying Yew died on his birthday when he lost control of his Isuzu D-Max opposite the KK High School near Kepayan Ridge.

Tang who was negotiating a bend rammed into a signpost before his vehicle overturned in the 2.50am mishap. He succumbed to serious head injuries.

Also on the first day an elderly pedestrian in Sandakan was killed in a road accident.

Siti Aminah Chang Abdullah, 56, was crossing the road at Mile 2Ã Jalan Utara when she was knocked down by a motorcycle at 8.30pm.

She died on the spot and the motorcyclist has been detained.

In another incident a 19-year-old youth drowned after the boat he was riding capsized in a river behind a factory at Jalan Gereja off Mile 9 Jalan Labuk in Sandakan, Tuesday.

Fire and Rescue Department chief, Alias Abu said its scuba diver team recovered the body an hour after it was alerted at 3pm.

In a separate incident, a 75-year-old man was burnt to death when his house was gutted at Kg. Cinabutan, Jalan Sapi Nongor, on the eve of Chinese New Year.

Alias said Domine Tuati was alone when fire broke out at about 11.33pm and that two others - Domine's 20-year-old daughter and his grandchild had gone to a clinic at the time.

The wooden house was already razed to the ground when firefighters arrived at 2.45am as the house was located in a remote area far away from Sandakan, he said.

Tambatuon River Dam

Yesterday I read about Tambatuon Dam and feel so glad that the state government have "Open Their Ear and Eye" regrading to the problem faces by Tambatuon Villager. I have wrote about this issue before and I'm glad at last the right of Tambatuon villager defended by the government. Hopefully this project will be cancelled. All the best for state government ( Sabah ) and congrats to all Tambatuon villager. Continue reading below article....

People in Kampung Tambatuon are thankful to the Government for listening to them on the issue of the Tambatuon Dam.

Kampung Tambatuon head Amin Goling, who represented the villagers, said the statement by MP Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan was a relief to them.

Last week, Abdul Rahman said the proposed Tambatuon Dam would not be implemented without the consent of the affected villagers.

According to Amin, the people in Kampung Tambatuon thanked Abdul Rahman for always being sensitive to the people's voice.

He said the Government would listen to whatever objection raised by the people but the kampung people need to do so through the proper channel.

"I urge the people of Kampung Tambatuon to continue supporting the present government because it is clear that it listens to every grouse of the rakyat and look into these fairly," he said.

Abdul Rahman, in his previous statement, had appealed for cooperation from the kampung folk, especially the action committee leaders opposing the project, to be open minded and to discuss with the Government.

"If the Government wants to sit down and talk with the kampung people on the matter, then they need to discuss properly but we will ensure that the dam will not be built as long as they still disagree to it," he said.

Bored housewife turns blogging as her full time work

Bored housewife turns blogging champ
By: Sherell Ann Jeffrey

THE Sabahan blogger who edged out international competitors for 'Jellirific - Get Your Jelly On' blogging challenge, Terri Ng, hopes her blogs will inspire others to explore their talents.
"I started out as a bored housewife who loved to share recipes.

I was known to write my recipes on tissue papers and pass them to friends," said Ng, who resigned from her job as a banker and decided to be a full time housewife when she had her children.

Speaking on her win, the mother of three said: "Winning the competition not only gave me more confidence to cook more daringly and creatively, but also gave my (Hunger Hunger) blog more exposure.

"I'm not just getting mails from people who tell me they love my recipes but also mails that say I can inspire other women like me who like to write and cook to start their own blog.

"It makes me happy if my blog can inspire other people.

A few readers have told me that they also started a food blog after following my blog.

"My family is proud of me, too - mom can cook besides grumble!" said Ng, who started blogging in 2007.

The competition was organised by the Royal Selangor in conjunction with Pink October month to raise awareness of breast cancer as well as to raise funds for breast cancer victims.

The funds would be donated to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association.

Ten international bloggers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, United Kingdom and the United States were invited by the Royal Selangor to compete in 30 consecutive days using the Royal Selangor's pewter jelly mold designed by English designer, Nick Munro.

"When he designed it he was thinking of the majestic mountains.

His tagline was 'love, life and humour'. So it was very appropriate for the awareness campaign.

It's about living," said Ng.

She said when Royal Selangor invited her to join the competition; she never knew that they were involved in the fund raising campaign in October.

"I was very impressed because such fund raising campaigns are a rarity in Malaysia.

So I thought, yes I can do it.

"The requirements were to do a blog for 30 consecutive days and come up with a jelly recipe based on the mold and related to the campaign," she explained.

"We were also encouraged to use local ingredients and that's what I did.

I used things from my garden like tomatoes, sugarcane and longan, among others.

I wanted my recipes to not only be creative but tasty as well," she said.

Speaking on the challenges, she said: "There are times when my internet connection was so bad that I had to go to my husband's office to blog.

"We have to post our blogs by 11.59pm each day, so having internet connections was an additional pressure for me.

"The other challenge I faced was that I'm not that good at photography and I don't like shooting with flash because flash on food is very harsh.

So I tried to shoot before the sun goes down, but in October I remember everyday before 2.30pm it started to get dark so I had to get my jellies prepared well before that.

"The other challenge is our hot weather. In the first week of the competition I threw a lot of jellies because gelatin was so hard to work with especially in our weather. I used gelatin because I wanted it to be clear and transparent and gelatin is the clearest," said Ng, adding that agar-agar and konyakku powder were also used to make her jellies.

She admitted that there were times when she felt like giving up but through perseverance and determination, she got through the challenges.

"Some patriotic Sabahans wrote to me: 'Sabah GoÉbring back the trophy', among others.

"I thought it was not such a big deal until I got a letter from an anonymous person who said 'You have given women inspiration that they can do what you did'. So I thought if it can inspire somebody then it's good," said Ng.

"I've been known to write my recipes on tissue papers so I thought why not start a blog right?

My advice is to find out what you are good at and interested in," she said.

Ng who admits to being shy, did Sabah proud when she won the grand prize after competing against nine other international bloggers.

She won return tickets to Kuala Lumpur for her son, husband and herself plus a return ticket for her daughter from Shanghai; three nights stay at mandarin oriental KL (two rooms), an Olympus Pen Lite E-PL3 camera worth RM3,000.

She also got a special prize of Royal Selangor pewter products for her 'O Christmas trees' jelly.

Workshops for youths, young adults: For Sabahn Youths

A three-month youth oriented 'Connections to Success' programme will be organised by the Sabah Women's Action Resource Group (Sawo) beginning Feb. 11.

It is aimed at getting youths and young adults to actively explore their career interest and integrating volunteerism into their daily lives alongside those careers.

It will be directed by a Fulbright scholar, Kathy Nguyen, from the United States and currently a Sawo intern.

"It's essential for the youth of today to actively explore and pursue their career interests, and not just wait for things to happen," said Nguyen.

"In my experience, I have learned that meeting people, asking questions, and being actively involved in society opens up doors that you wouldn't have known existed," she added.

'Connections to Success' consists of a series of Saturday workshops.

Youths who are willing to expand their minds and explore the concept of not only surviving in society but also thriving are welcomed to participate.

For more information, contact Kathy at 013 552 0830, 088-269 291 or email at sawo.women@yahoo.com.

The closing date for registration is Feb 8.

Dear Churper,

The Year of the Rabbit is ending very soon, and Churpie is getting really excited about ushering in the Year of the Dragon this Chinese New Year! In fact, Churpie’s so excited about Chinese New Year that it dressed up as its idol Bruce Lee (yes, Churpie is feisty like that!) to celebrate:

Do remember to spend some time with your loved ones this time of the year, be it indulging in festive cookies and delicacies, playing games, cracking jokes, or simply catching up with each other. For those of you who are driving back home, drive safe and have short breaks in between your journey if you’re tired!

Before the year of Dragon comes roaring in, Churpie and all of us at Churp Churp would like to wish every one of you Churpers a very prosperous and auspicious Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Holidays.

Got a Chinese New Year greeting to Churpers out there? Tweet to us (@Churp2) your greetings and we will retweet it to share the love with Churpers this Chinese New Year!

10 Love Lessons Learned from the Movie Love Guru

Who says Hollywood doesn’t make socially redeeming movies anymore? Just take a look atLove Guru, the Mike Myers film. It’s loaded with romantic advice. In fact, we’ll list 10 love lessons you can learn from the movie Love Guru.
  1. Acts of kindness should never be motivated by expectations of reciprocal gestures. For instance, it’s OK if your Uncle Jack helps you off an elephant, but you really shouldn’t return the favor. Just saying.
  2. Until a man learns to love himself, he may only date three girls named Ann: Ann Visible, Ann Flatable, and Ann Job.
  3. Wisdom of Guru Pitka Part 1: “Intimacy is like putting your wiener on a table and having someone say ‘That looks like a penis… only smaller’.” Speaking of intimacy …
  4. Wisdom of Guru Pitka, Part 2 enlightens us as to the true definition of intimacy : “I speak of Intimacy, or ‘Into me, I see’.” The guru is telling us that we need to know ourselves before we can become intimate with another. Or at least that’s what we think he’s trying to say.
  5. If you love someone, you will make for them a Quebec pizza. It may not seem like much on the surface, but there’s love in there. And some ketchup.
  6. If your boyfriend looks as though he’s smuggling a schnauzer, don’t be alarmed. That’s a good thing; though you may want to keep him on a short leash, away from your girlfriends.
  7. Wisdom of Pitka, Part 3: Love means having a lot of Clarity, Organization, Charm, and Knowledge. In fact, the more you have, the more love you are likely to get.
  8. Wisdom, Part 4: When your partner is being disrespectful of your feelings, it is important that you tell them, “Be Loving and Openhearted With My Emotions”.
  9. Another important love lesson learned from the movie Love Guru is that you must truly love Mike Myers to be willing to watch this film. But a more important lesson is this …
  10. If you have any hopes of having a second date with her, don’t take her to see this film on your first date.
