Kiulu 4M Challenge, 5 December 2010


13th Kiulu 4M Bamboo Rafting Challenge, Tamparuli Sabah.

Once again the Kiulu 4M Bamboo Rafting is nearly around the corner. This Extreme events will start on 5 December 2010 at Kiulu and will be supervise by Sabah Tourism Board and Datuk Louis Rampas. This Events is repeatedly ever year and it is the 13 time already it being conducted. A journey to Kiulu Town is only take about 50 minute form Kota kinabalu City and 20 minute from Tamparuli city. Local tourist can joint tis program by downloading the form inserted at this post and sent it to the correspondent person. Don't forget to stay at Pukak and Matabang Home stay to enjoy the nice view at Kiulu and Pukak itself.


Take part in this ‘Amazing Race’ with a Sabahan twist!

The Kiulu 4M is a traditional extreme sports competition featuring 4 traditional activities that play up one’s survival skills. It incorporates the four Ms in Kadazandusun: Manangkus (running), Mamangkar (bamboo rafting), Manampatau (paddle-swimming with a bamboo pole), and Mamarampanau (walking on bamboo stilts). All these activities are to be completed sequentially.

Held in the picturesque Kiulu constituency, the 4M challenge beckons participants to join in categories including the Women Open, Junior Open, X-Treme 5M Men Open, Mixed Double Open, 5M Open, Press/media, and an additional special category for participants from the corporate and government sectors.The Kiulu 4M challenge promises an exhilarating wet and wild time for all. Kiulu 4M Rafting Challenge Profile

An indigenous, adventurous and thrilling eco-sports tourism event of survival skills, teamwork and traditional sports. A noble endeavour to protect, preserve and conserve the beauty of nature, in particular the rivers in Kiulu.

The '4M' are four events, which all begin with the letter 'M'. In the Kadazandusun language the 4M, stands for:


Manangkus
'Manangkus' means running. In the event, participants have to run to the next event, mamangkar.








Mamangkar
Participants are to ride a bangkar (bamboo raft) (rubber raft for Travel Industry / Corporate / Government category) down the Kiulu River, a grade 1-2 river.




Manampatau
In this event, participants drift/swim downriver with the help of tampatau (bamboo pole)






Mamarampanau
The last event of the K4MC requires its participants to walk/run on rampanau (bamboo stilts). Should a participant fall, he or she is not allowed to take a step forward or backwards, as doing so would mean disqualification. The participant may only climb back onto the rampanau without taking an extra step in any direction.

Kiulu 4M Challenge is held in the Kiulu constituency in Tuaran. It is located 60 kilometers east of Kota Kinabalu. On the way to Kiulu, visitors will pass by the Tamparuli town. Tamparuli is home of the famous Tamparuli suspension bridge—a popular tourist attraction that inspired the eponymous folk song, Jambatan Tamparuli.

When in Kiulu, be sure not to miss the surrounding attractions such as the weekly tamu market. There are four different places holding their weekly tamu markets within its proximity, namely Kiulu, Tamparuli, Tuaran, and Tenghilan. Rules and Regulation

1.Participants must submit their entry forms together with the prescribed payment for the registration fee, raft, tampatau and rampanau on or before the registration closing date. The said payment must be made by cash or bank transfer to Alliance Bank account number 100110020173582. Payment for the raft, tampatau and rampanau is not refundable. The registration fee is refundable only if the participants withdraw from the race before the closing date.

2. Participants must be able to swim, physically and mentally fit; must wear life jackets; and follow strictly all rules and regulations specified by one organizer.
Age of participants is based on the day of the event.

3. Participants of the Xtreme 5M Men Open and 5M Open categories are required to make the bamboo raft using the bamboo logs, wood frames, and ropes provided by the organizer.

4. Participants that are assisted by any other party shall be automatically disqualified from the race.

5. Participants are allowed to bring/use their own bamboo raft, tampatau, rampanau, and life jacket according to the specifications by the organizer.

6. Participants shall take part in this K4MC event voluntarily at their own risk, and shall provide insurance coverage and other safety measures at their own expense. The organizer shall not be liable and shall be forever exempted from any claim or claims related to death and /or injuries arising from participation in the event.

7. Every participant is required to sign a Declaration of indemnity. Participants under 21 years of age must obtain the consent of their parents or guardians who shall sign the Declaration of indemnity on their behalf. (refer Form item number 4 & 5)
Any appeal must be accompanied by a protest fee of RM100.00 cash and lodged to the Race Coordinator within 15 minutes after the announcement of the results. The protest fee is not refundable.The decisions of the judges are final.

8. A participant will be disqualified if:-
He/she did not pay the registration fee and other charges specified by the organizer.
He/she did not report to the K4MC Event Secretariat 30 minutes before flag-off.
Numbers are not displayed prominently.
He/she did not report/go through all the check points.
He/she defaulted any rule and regulation of the event.
He/she caused any disruption or interruption of the event.

9. The organizer shall have the absolute discretion/right to amend the rules & regulations of the event and to change the date of the event or to cancel the event due to inclement weather, flood or any other reasons deem just by the organizing committee. In the event that the race is postponed to another date or is cancelled indefinitely, the organizer will not be held responsible for any expenses incurred by the participants.
