Schools and institutions should be exposed to OSH

All schools and Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT) in this country should be exposed to the training aspects of occupational safety and health (OSH) to ensure they are prepared if faced with an accident or emergency.

Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, said the school and the university were exposed to the risk of accidents such as the use of hazardous chemicals in science laboratories and experimentation.
"Lecturers, teachers, students, pupils and staff involved should be given exposure on OSH in our efforts to reduce accidents at work," he told reporters after witnessing the Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NIOSH and the University of Technology Mara (UiTM), here today.

MOU between NIOSH and UiTM, each represented by Executive Director of NIOSH, Rosli Hussin and UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar for collaboration in academic and research (Industrial hygiene and safety) involves the UiTM's Faculty of Applied Science.

Sahol Hamid said the joint venture identified by NIOSH include developing academic programs at Diploma, Degree and Masters by offering full time courses, short courses or seminars. - BERNAMA
