"upside down house' Who Designed It?

The architect who designed the "upside down house" in Tamparuli is registered as a graduate architect with the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) Sabah Chapter.

Immediate Past Chairman of PAM Sabah Chapter, Ho Jia Lit, said based on the media report on the house in the Daily Express, the architect concerned (Cheong Kok Ann) had not portrayed himself as a professional architect.

"Personally, I don't know who submitted the building plan to the local authority for approval," he said.

He was responding to public queries on the official stand of the Board of Architects of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) on graduate architects.

Ho said the callers and those who sent him text messages wanted to know whether a graduate architect could call himself a professional architect, as well as the ruling on graduate architects as far as the PAM Board of Architects was concerned.

Answering a reporter's question, he wondered whether the house was considered environment-friendly "if it causes dizziness to an average person after about 10 minutes inside the house as reported."

"Nevertheless, when it comes to a personal house, it's a personal house and the owner can do what he likes with it. Nobody has the right to condemn anybody who owns a house because his own house is his own castle," Ho pointed out.

On the house's potential as a tourist attraction, he said it is for visitors and tourists to judge whether it is fantastic or not.
