My Life My Story: Condolences to the ADO Family, Mr Hilde P Kayau

|

I was shocked to watch and hear the news last night at TV3. It was a sad new and I'm pity for the late ADO family's. I remember when I was working at Cosmopoint Kota Kinabalu as the Marketing Manager, we used to rent the so-called "Bilik Gerakan" Pejabat Daerah Kota Marudu and my staff have experiencing to meet this guy. He was cooperative and very understandable person. May his soul rest in peace. Amen......

A family's plan to spend the rest of the week together in Kundasang was cut short when the head of the family was found burnt to death in his car early Thursday. Assistant District Officer (Administration), Hilde P. Kayau, 43, is believed to have been killed after his car caught fire while he slept inside the vehicle. No foul play is suspected, said police. His charred remains were found in the driver's seat about 4.45am at Km 12, Jalan Tandek.

District Officer Luvita Koisun said Tambunan-hailed Hilde had stayed in the office late to finish some paperwork as he was preparing for his leave to spend the weekend with his family away from their home in Pitas. "He was supposed to start his holiday today (Thursday) to bring his wife and four children to Kundasang as students are on holiday now, that was why he stayed back and only drove home so late," she said. She said they believe he must have felt sleepy and had parked at the roadside.

"Nobody knows what happened after that. We are all very shocked and saddened by his death as he had always been a nice person to be with for the past eight years he had been working here," she said. "He was the Assistant District Officer in Pitas before he was transferred here and he had always been a friendly and reliable worker. His wife and children are living in Pitas," Luvita pointed out.

District Police Chief DSP Mohd Isa Yusof also said Hilde was heading home from Kota Marudu to Pitas when the incident happened."After receiving a call from the fire station, policemen were sent and initial investigations showed no foul play leading to the tragedy," he said.

The police were also made to understand that the engine of the vehicle had been repaired twice for faulty wiring. "However, we are still waiting for results from the forensics and chemistry departments to identify the cause," he said, adding that the case had been classified as sudden death.

Having known Hilde personally for several years, Mohd Isa was sorry he had to die that way. "He had no enemies that we know of, because he was nothing but friendly and cheerful," he explained. Meanwhile, Luvita said Hilde's wife and children were also present to identify his body and vehicle. "The wife identified him from the necklace and wedding ring he was wearing," she said.
