Free As A Bird was originally composed and recorded in 1977 as a home demo by John Lennon. In 1995 a studio version of the recording, with contributions from Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, was released as a single by The Beatles, the first new Beatles single since they broke up in 1970.

John was one half of the greatest popular music songwriting combination of all time. Even in this crude demo recorded at home with low tech equipment, you can just sense a great musical genius at work. Remember, this was done 7 years after the end of the Fab Four; 10 years after Sgt Peppers, which was probably the greatest pop/rock album ever made. Compare this with his first ever composition (Hello Little Girl) in 1957 when he was 17.
