Computer Aids for Rural Areas School.

More than 15 government-aided primary and secondary schools in Sabah, especially those in rural areas, have thus far benefited from the computer assistance programme under the Resource Development and Information Technology Ministry.

The latest was SRK St James in Apin Apin, the oldest school in Keningau, which received its share of the contribution under the programme, on Tuesday.

Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat presented three computer units to the school, received by its Excellent Principal Nasip Dipal, in a brief ceremony held at his office in Wisma Bandaraya, here, that morning.

Hoping the contribution would help in boosting further the school and student performance, Siringan said the free contribution is part of the State Government and Ministry's effort to help provide such information and communication technology (ICT) facility to such needy schools in the rural area.

"We hope the contribution will directly and indirectly assist in encouraging the rural pupils to use ICT, in line with the State and Ministry's aspiration to boost the use of ICT in rural area," he said.

He said the Ministry will continue with this ongoing programme, which is subject to availability of budget provided for the purpose, adding the contribution is provided according to requests made by the needy schools which would be those that do not receive full government assistance.

The Ministry is also continuously monitoring the progress of all schools which have received the contribution, he said.

Meanwhile, Nasip thanked the Ministry and Minister for the contribution which, he said, is very meaningful for the teachers and students considering the school all this while is heavily dependent on contribution from parents.

He said the school, a former mission school established in 1946, is still lacking in terms of ICT facility and the contribution would reduce the work burden of its teachers as well as boost their teaching performance.

The school, which presently has 190 pupils and 28 teaching and administration staff, applied for the assistance last year.

The Ministry's Permanent Secretary Bruno Vun was also present.
