My Life My Stories: Manchester United FC

I started watching EPL back in 1995 where my favourite team was Manchester United and Liverpool United. My uncle (Mr Duani ) was a big fan for Liverpool FC. I still remember the so-called EPL was named as " Big League Soccer " than. He was in a deep enjoyed watching for Ian Rush scoring for Liverpool. It was a the beginning of my passion to watch the games. Manchester United in 1995 was the most popular football club in England. The best player during that time was, Eric Cantona which my favourite player beside David Beckham, Lee Sharp, Teddy Sherringam, Micheal Owen, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and many more. I have watched all MU matches during the 1995/96 season. My support to MU will last forever.

 Eric Cantona

In 1996, I am also a big fan for Sabah FC. During that time Sabah FC was in the pinnacle of their success, where Matlan Marjan along with Scott Ollenransaw, Henry Anjun, Jefferson Kilan and many more was the best team mate ever produced in the game. Sabah FC won the FA cup and listed in the top 5 for Malaysian League Cup. I used to compared Manchester United with Sabah FC but it was far different team. The style of plying have similar passion but the man playing inside the team was totally different. Matlan Marjan was one of the best player in Sabah FC ever created. Hurrrah for Matlan Marjan.

 Matlan Marjan

Sabah FA

Football Association of Sabah or Sabah FA is a professional football club representing the State for football tournament in Malaysia. The main stadium used by the football club is Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Sabah is the most successful team in East Malaysia. Sabah FA showing it outstanding performances in the Super League and Malaysia Cup where the neighboring state Sarawak football team, cannot beat Sabah FA record. Some of the Malaysian national players were born from this team like the famous twin strikers  in the 1980s era such as Hassan Sani and James Wong. The current Sabah FA couch, Mr Justin Ganai was one of King James football mate during the Sabah FA hey day..

Sabah is one of the well-known team in Malaysia. Sabah's golden era began in the late 1970s. At this time a number of quality players were born. Players such as Hassan Sani and James Wong is the milestone that helps Sabah became the runner-up league and qualify for the Malaysia Cup semifinals in 1979 and became the most outstanding Sabah player who scored the most  remarkable goals. Other than that, the status of Sabah soaring when the English giants Manchester United travel to Sabah in the 1980s to hold a friendly match. The game saw Manchester United beat 0-2 Sabah.

When semi-professional league was introduced in early 1989. Sabah was one of the teams that often challenge the elite teams like Selangor in Malaysia soccer arena. Players such as Matlan Marjan where he was the national team leader at the time, help Sabah won their first professional competition the FA Cup in Malaysia in 1995 after beat Pahang 3-1. While the soccer corruption scandal occurred in 1994 and 1995, involving several player from Sabah as the national venomous striker Matlan Marjan included in the scandal, football in Sabah remained on track. Sabah won the FA Cup in 1995 and the Premier League (now the Malaysian Super League) in 1996. Sabah also emerged as the Malaysia Cup runners-up 1996.

In the era of 2000, Sabah's performance began to decline. They ranked just 11 league and was relegate to the Premier League 2. Sabah tried to rise on the season and a successful became league runners-up. Sabah was back again to the main stage Malaysian football, and they managed to achieve third place in the league. Sabah has also appeared as Malaysia 2002 Cup runner-up for the second time.

The next season, Sabah took fourth place league and they were again disappointed when losing for the third time in the Malaysia Cup final. When the 2004 Malaysian Super League was introduced, the performance of Sabah began to be dropped. Sabah struggle to escape from the removal of the first Premier League season. The next season had to accede when relegate to the Premier League despite venomous striker Julio Rodriguez, who scored 18 goals.

Once relegate to the Premier League, Sabah failed to return to Super League knockout stages despite entering for the Super League. Despite a good start early in the season 2007/08, Sabah ranked only fourth.

The arrival of new coach Gary Phillips began the rise of the performance of the Sabah FA. In the seven months of his service began in December 2009, Sabah ranked second successful Premier League ended six years of waiting while Sabah FA to play again in Super League.

Now 2012, Sabah FA got two import player from Australia and the head coach Mr Justin Ganai promise that Sabah FA at least will win one cup title. Justin Ganai played for Sabah in 1980s era whereby it was Sabah FA golden era. He was born in a small village in the Tuaran district called Malangan which this same village with my father. Now he live at Perumahan Kionsom Baru Tamparuli where I live too. I knew him very well. Many of ex Sabah player were originated from Tamparuli Sabah such as Vun Keat Ming, Zykeial Leong, Burhan Ajui, Welfredo Valdez, Henry Simpon and many more which I don't recall anymore. We are hoping that Sabah FA will be stronger than before and we want to have the glory day again.

List of Ex Sabah Player (Import)
David Rocastle, Milomir Seslija, Janu Miroslav, Scott Ollenrensaw, Tim Bradbury, Sahpou Lesie, Julio Redriguezs and many more. Good Luck for Sabah FA for Super League 2012.
